Nighthawks

I saw my first ever nighthawks a week or two ago while walking the dogs
early evening with my friend, Ann ---we watched a flock of them (at the time we didn't know what they were) swooping and churning above us in the dusky light - obviously catching bugs. The markings under their wings were so distinctive it only took a "real" birder seconds to tell me what they were when I described them.  We feel so lucky to have seen them! The same week, the painting Nighthawks by Edward Hopper came up in my reading - what an odd coincidence.
