End of year

I can't believe we are nearing the end of 2013, this year has been both long and short.  I can easily say that this has been the hardest year of my life so far, mainly due to the loss of my mother this past June.  Not a day goes by when I don't miss her.    As I wrap up 2013, I try to look for the bright side and be hopeful for the future.

It is important, I think, to look for hope in the little things and happiness in the seemingly mundane.  I guess the easiest way to express that for me is visually.  I made a couple of collages this week with little bits of paper known as "scraps".  When I first started work in collage many years ago, I had what I thought of as priceless images I could barely stand to cut from old magazines, fearing that there was a limited supply to work from.  The longer I work in this medium, the more I cherish the bits cut away - so often I am happiest with the work made from things that I used to discard.

I know this year has been a difficult one for a lot of people-- loss of loved ones, illness, but I'm ever hopeful that 2014 will be a better one for all of us.

Vivienne,
All good things must come to an end....and then they are always followed by new beginnings.
