Unknown woman, lost in thought

Months and months ago, a friend on Flickr was very kind and sent a whole slew of wonderful vintage photos including a slide of a very beautiful woman sitting in what appears to be a hotel room.  It could be a bedroom but it is so devoid of personal belongings that I don't believe it is a permanent residence.  Nothing is known about the woman and I put off painting her for a long time because I knew I would never be able to paint her as beautiful as she in in the photograph, but I at least tried to capture the mood.

Here is the photo that inspired this piece.

Your rendition is beautiful. I like the mystery of it. I just watched a documentary on Alice Neel. This portrait reminds me of some of her work.

hi V, just roaming through your site and I must have missed this post and it's so amazing! What a lovely lovely image to work from and I love this piece so much. I am almost done painting the house and Geoff and I can't wait to hang our art up and I will send you a picture of her displayed when we do. x I'm so thrilled to have your work in my home.
