Ida Ruth Downer was a firm believer in sensible shoes.

One night last month I sat in bed and did quick sketches from one of my old 1930s yearbooks, these are real names but of course imagined personality traits. More to come!

Inspired sketch! Reminds me of my mother's old friend, Iletta Pugh. I'm not kidding. And after the unfortunate marriage-name-change, she went on to name her daughter, Sue.

What was Iletta thinking? Wasn't she herself tormented by the other children on the playground?
