The idea for this painting came from several sources. It started forming in my mind when my mom shared a funny childhood story about how when she was a young girl, she had a blue suitcase that she kept packing with the intent of running away from home but never did because she couldn't figure out where she would go. I did a rough sketch at the time and then recently read a John Cheever story where he told about how children will pack the oddest assortment of things when they planned to runaway from home.

I love everything about this painting, Vivienne -- the colors, the composition, the great story. Nice work!
Vivienne - This is awesome! I, too, used to pack to run away all the time when I was a little girl (oddly enough, in a round, zipper topped, blue suitcase!). This brought those days to my mind immediately.
Excellent work - as always!
why wouldn't you need a hammer a giraffe and a skipping rope?
(love the cat at the window)
thank you Jessica, Loudlife & Jane!
